Sony’s SimpleSign Beta-Testing with Cineviz

Cineviz & freshpaintdigital’s crucial input attracts interest from industry giant, SONY.

Sony Beta-testing ReviewGreen Bay, WI, October 1, 2008 — John Holmes, Sony Corporation’s National Marketing Manager in New Jersey, recently met with digital signage and content providers, Cineviz™, last month in Green Bay, Wisconsin to discuss the results of Sony’s SimpleSign™ beta-testing. Impressed with the feedback provided by the Green Bay-based company, Sony product managers, Taro Tadano (Senior Manager, Public Display Section) and Kirk Enomoto (Senior Manager, Technology Sec.5 Monitor Dept. of B2B Solutions Business Group) also made the trip from Japan specifically to meet with the Cineviz™ team.

SimpleSign™ makes digital signage more accessible and affordable “by providing everything needed for start-up digital signage in one box. It’s perfect for any small to medium business which is currently using DVD or Video tapes to playback corporate marketing messages or promotional advertising,” according to Sony’s website product overview. Prior to the meeting in Green Bay, freshpaintdigital™ created and implemented digital media content for Sony’s hardware, while its subsidiary partner, Cineviz™, offered crucial feedback during its application that seemed to have piqued Sony’s interest.

John Behnke, Project Manager of Cineviz™, described their role in the testing as really two simultaneous goals: “One was pushing the limits of SimpleSign’s product to see what it can do (and can’t do), while number two was to see what kinds of customers are best served by Sony’s new application.”

Cineviz™ rigorously tested SimpleSign’s performance limits to determine what kinds of strains the product might undergo, what might happen under those conditions, and what kinds of format and networking scenarios would be ideal for Sony’s customers. From a content standpoint, Cineviz™ and freshpaintdigital™ ultimately provided Sony with ideal recommendation standards for future application of SimpleSign Solutions.

As Behnke put it, “our tests helped determine Sony’s goal to provide SimpleSign™ users with an easy-to-use website and/or software product, allowing users to easily input their own media and advanced functionalities in a cost-effective, well-rounded solution.” President and Creative Director of both Cineviz™ and freshpaintdigital™, Scott Koffarnus, added that “the meeting with Sony SimpleSign™ executives reflect their commitment to users by taking the complexity out of digital signage, making it more affordable, yet still keeping a diligent eye on the quality of the product. We were happy to be a valued partner with a company like Sony, and we found out just how much our philosophies about digital signage are the same.”

While no official decision has been issued publicly from either party regarding a consistent collaboration, Sony Corporation and President/Creative Director Scott Koffarnus continue to discuss how both companies can continue to work together successfully, now and in the near future.
